A massage session attends to the individual, not only in the physical aspect of the body but also in achieving a feeling of balance and wholeness. At Body In Balance we offer several styles of massage and body work, including Swedish, Somatic Movement, CranioSacral, Sports massage, Reiki, LaStone®, Aromatherapy & Myofascial Release from Wisconsin Certified Massage Therapists.

Acupressure uses simple, direct finger pressure on points found along energy pathways used in eastern medicine.  The result is often relief of common tensions and discomforts. This is achieved mainly by directly relaxing the muscular tension, which balances the body's energy and increases the production of endorphins.  The technique consists of a client lying face up while the practitioner holds one or more pressure points on the body.  The client remains fully clothed during an Acupressure session.
Aromatherapy is the art and science of using 100% pure essential oils. Essential oils are powerful antioxidants and are anti-microbial. Essential oils penetrate the skin quickly and have been shown to increase oxygen intake of the cells. In conjunction with massage they assist in the balancing and relaxing of our entire being and promote physical, emotional and spiritual healing. Aromatherapy is also a great treat for the senses.
Chair Massage We offer a 15 minute chair massage in our office and corporate chair massage in yours. During the massage the client is seated in a specially designed chair. The therapist focuses the massage on the head, neck, back and arms. This is a great way to introduce massage to someone who has never received one. It's also easy to fit into a busy schedule. This massage is not recommended for pregnant women. Book your appointment today!
CranioSacral Therapy A gentle, light touch is used in the detection and correction of malfunctions in the body. The therapist works with the meningeal lining, which surrounds the brain and spinal cord. This lining is attached to the inside of the cranium bones and the base of the spine, or sacrum. By using a very light pressure and movement on different areas of the head and body, restrictions may be released. CranioSacral Therapy may open sinus cavities to allow fluids to flow correctly, relieve contracted muscles and impinged nerves, veins and arteries. As stress on the central nervous system is released, the body works to self correct and heal its self. During a session the client remains fully clothed.
Healing Touch Therapy is an energy-based therapeutic approach to healing that uses touch to influence the body’s energy system: the energy fields, energy tracts and energy centers.  A variety of hands-on or hands-off techniques will be employed to clear, stimulate or balance the energy system. The goal of this therapy is to restore overall balance, relaxation and a sense of wholeness, thus facilitating relief of pain and anxiety and a person’s ability to self-heal.
Hot Stone Massage A relaxing massage using warm black basalt stones. Muscles, aches and worries melt under the heated stones leaving you completely relaxed!
LaStone® Therapy is massage utilizing the principles of thermotherapy with the application of hot basalt stones and cold marble stones. The use of both hot and cold stones produces alternately sedative and re-energizing responses in the body. These 'vascular gymnastics' of the circulatory system assist the body in self-healing. The deep penetrating heat of the basalt stones allow the muscles to quickly relax, enabling the therapist to work deeply, bringing relief to areas of pain and dysfunction. LaStone® goes beyond the physical experience of a typical massage and enters deeper dimensions of relaxation, health and well being, creating a positive approach to the 'Body-Mind-Spirit' philosophy.
Lymphatic Massage stimulates the lymphatic system to remove congestion and stagnation from within the body, and so help it return to a healthy condition. This therapy utilizes gentle massage strokes that remove blockages and promotes proper lymph flow. This is important because it is the primary function of the lymph system to defend the body against disease by cleansing, detoxifying and nourishing the body's tissues. When the lymph system is blocked, toxins and plasma may accumulate causing interference with cell nourishment and depressing the immune system.
Myofascial Release A therapeutic massage modality which utilizes gentle stretching of the fascia to produce an effect upon the soft tissues, minimizing pain and restoring movement. Fascia is a connective tissue that forms a three dimensional web around and through all muscles, bones, nerves and organs. Malfunctions within the fascia web, due to trauma, postural habits or inflammation can create a binding of the fascia, resulting in abnormal pressure, which can initiate pain or malfunctions at other sites throughout the body. Myofascial Release sessions are individualized to treat the root of the problem and return the client to a relaxed pain free and active lifestyle.
Neuromuscular Therapy is the utilization of static pressure on specific myofascial points (trigger points)  to relieve pain. This technique manipulates the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons and connective tissue) to balance the central nervous system. In a healthy individual, nerves transmit impulses (which are responsible for every movement, function and thought) to the body very slowly. Injury, trauma, postural distortion or stress cause nerves to speed up their transmission, inhibiting equilibrium and making the body vulnerable to pain and dysfunction. It is therefore necessary to stabilize low levels of neurological activity to maintain normal function and overall health.
Prenatal Massage is a gentle and nurturing massage for the expectant mother. In the early weeks of pregnancy the woman may lay on her back and her abdomen. As her belly begins to grow she will receive massage in a side-lying and semi-reclined position. It is always best to consult with your Doctor prior to receiving a prenatal massage.
Reflexology is an ancient art that brings relaxation and wellness to the entire body.  Every part of the body corresponds to specific points on the feet that can be manipulated for relief.
Reiki An ancient healing art form recently rediscovered. Reiki works with universal life force energy, also known as Chi, Ki or Qui. The therapist uses a gentle placement of hands on the client's body redirecting energy, so that blocked areas may be released, allowing the energy to flow more efficiently. This assists in alleviating malfunctions in the body and gives the individual a wonderful sense of overall well being. The client remains fully clothed during a Reiki session.
Somatic Movement uses gentle motion to facilitate the release of chronic muscle tension. The practitioner, while in a meditative state, guides the client's body through various movements, such as rocking, weighing or lifting, and light traction. A session may leave the client feeling more integrated, whole and graceful, and imparts a deep sense of calm and peacefulness. Somatic movement may help to alleviate pain and dysfunction throughout the body.
Sports massage is a form of massage, which utilizes specific strokes to help athletes obtain maximum performance and physical conditioning by increasing power, endurance and mobility both before and after an event or exercise. Sports massage can accelerate the healing process, increase range of motion, reduce adhesion and reduce swelling, bruising and pain. Sports massage is helpful for anyone who routinely stretches their physical limits through movement.
Swedish & Deep Tissue massage uses long gliding strokes along the body to bring about deep relaxation, allowing the receiver to let go of stress and tension. Deep tissue, as the name implies, aims at a deeper level of the muscle tissue and is more focused on specific areas of pain and tension. Commonly, Swedish and deep tissue massage are used together in a session, which may consist of a full body massage or may concentrate on areas of concern. Massage therapy has many documented benefits beyond moderation of stress and physical discomforts and should be considered a vital aspect of your health maintenance program. Not only is massage beneficial, it just plain feels good!
Trigger Point A trigger point is a knot or wad of muscle fibers staying in a hard contraction, never relaxing. A trigger point affects a muscle by keeping it both tight and weak. Quite often trigger points send pain to other areas of the body rather than directly at the cause. Trigger points can cause neck and jaw pain, headaches, backaches and numerous other aches and pains. By working the trigger point repeatedly one can often find relief from pain.
